The Arrowhead Cove pilot dredging project at Deep Creek Lake has been completed. This project involves the removal of accumulated sediment from the lakebed, revitalizing the waterbody, providing greater boater access, and preserving its ecological integrity.
December 1, 2023
The first load of sediment was removed from Arrowhead Cove this morning, 12/1/2023. Main cofferdam and turbidity curtain was fully installed on Wednesday and Thursday. Project is well on its way.
We will keep a close eye on all aspects of sediment removal, dewatering, water pumping, and effectiveness of the cofferdam before Brookfield raises the water levels back to the upper rule band.
Brookfield will be raising the Deep Creek water levels to 2458’ beginning at the end of the day on Thursday, December 7. This is about a 1.5’ increase to where water levels have been for the last three weeks.

We only got 0.4” of rain yesterday and little snow today. No problems at the dredge site. Crews were able to work all day and removed 640 cy of sediment. We are at about 40% removal.

Byco is over 50% of the way done with removing sediment from the cove and will be completed with that portion of the project by mid-January.

The following pictures are of the Arrowhead Cove dredging project upland restoration work. Byco has been working on the restoration activities over the last two weeks. Twenty native trees were planted last Thursday at the request of the Park Service along with numerous shrubs that were planted in the heavy equipment access area to the lake.
All staging area gravel was removed and replaced with top soil. Byco is grading the area, planting grass seed and covering the area with straw. Byco hopes to complete the work this week.
The in-water SAV restoration/planting is tentatively scheduled for the end of May. This work will be conducted by DNR’s Resource Assessment Service (RAS) staff. RAS staff collected native SAV seeds from Deep Creek Lake last September. The seeds were processed and stored at a nursery/greenhouse over the winter. The seeds have been propagated and the young plants will be ready for planting in May.
